Patios, Sheds, and Summer Houses: How to Maximise the Space in Your Garden

submitted on 13 June 2022
Everyone wants to have a garden with more space. More room for a large strawberry bed, a few raised beds, and perhaps some fruit trees would be a dream come true. This article will share some of the brilliant ways to maximise your garden space. Read on to learn which one applies to your garden.

Sheds
If you don't have a garden shed yet, consider putting up a shed with overlap cladding. It is among the most budget-friendly options you can have. But before building one, make sure to check local building codes first. For homeowners who have an existing shed, try utilising every space to free up some space. The key here is being organised.

For instance, that bulky wheelbarrow could go somewhere in the shed instead of lying around the garden. It gives room to another raised bed or a row of beautiful flowering plants. Another way to organise your shed is to hang your hardware or small tools. You can use magnetic tool strips, peg boards, and hanging jars. Also, use your shed's outdoor walls to hang rakes, shovels, and other durable tools. It would also help if you have some cord and hose organisers to avoid wasting floor space.

Patios
If your home doesn't have a spacious yard, but it has a patio, then you're all set. Gardening on a patio is also less laborious than weeding a huge garden bed. For example, growing plants in your porch garden earlier than its season are possible, mainly if it’s a sheltered location. Imagine having ripe tomatoes when your neighbours are still waiting for their tomatoes to sprout! Gardening on your patio is a great way to have fresh produce right behind the kitchen door. You can get it straight from the pot whenever you need some ginger.

Make sure to choose the best location to plant your garden plants. Consider the area where there’s direct sunlight for at least six hours every day. It is also best to plant in a place where a faucet is nearby. It makes watering easier. The best green leafy vegetables to grow on your patio are lettuce, chard, and kale. For the root crops, plant radish and carrots.

Summerhouses
Summerhouses are still a part of English tradition. They’re an excellent place to relax, write, read, and savour your favourite tea.If your garden space permits, consider building a summerhouse. It can enhance your garden's aesthetic and increase your property's value. Furthermore, to maximise your garden space, build your summerhouse at the far end of the garden. But, it's not a good idea to place it in the middle as it'll break up your lawn's space and make your garden look smaller.

Building a summerhouse can provide you with an array of benefits. It can extend your living space, become your garden office, or serve as your outdoor family room. Aside from that, it can also be an excellent place to study quietly without the distractions of television and computers.

Conclusion
Overall, you can maximise the space in your garden by planting garden vegetables on your patio, organising your shed, and building a summerhouse in the right area.
