How to Add a Little Luxury to Your Outdoor Seating Area

submitted on 23 August 2020
During the spring and summertime, we spend most of our time in our garden’s seating area. However, a lot of people feel dissatisfied with this area of their home, not knowing how to apply interior design to the outdoors. But don’t worry. We’re here to help you with this predicament by sharing some of our best ideas for decorating your garden’s patio, decking or balcony. Read on if you want to add a little more luxury to your outdoor seating area.

Lighting
Most people assume they can’t use elaborate lighting outdoors because they worry about the electrical circuits being damaged by poor weather conditions. However, there are some types of luxury lighting which are IP rated, meaning they can be installed outside. As such, you can actually hang a chandelier in your outdoor seating area, providing illumination and luxuriance at the same time. You can feel like you’re dining in an opulent restaurant at night-time, even as you sit in your garden.

Landscaping
Landscaping is another great way to add a certain sophistication to your garden. Depending on your budget, you can do this yourself, or bring a contractor in. Many people enjoy adding a stepping-stone pathway, decking or tiling, and flower patches. Do whatever suits your taste.

Landscaping is an excellent way to add dimension, texture and colour to your garden, which is a good rule of thumb for all interior design. It doesn’t matter if you do it on a large scale (with elegant topiaries and fountains) or on a small scale (using flower boxes and vegetable patches), because either way, your garden will look better for it.

Furniture
If you want your outdoor seating area to look luxurious, then we don’t recommend buying deck chairs and a folding table. Instead, you might need to fork out a little more money – but it’ll definitely be worth it. Popular choices for outdoor furniture include rattan sofas with waterproof upholstery or wrought iron aluminium chairs and tables. Swing seats are also a great idea because they come in a multitude of materials and aesthetics; from homely wood benches to hanging egg-shaped chairs. Once again, what you decide upon will depend on your taste. Good outdoor furniture is an absolute must for a luxury seating area.

Accessorise
Wondering how to accessorise your garden? No worries, because we have plenty of options for you. For starters, we recommend using flower and plant pots to their best advantage, as they will bring life and colour to your seating area. Next, you could add decorative outdoor lamps to accent the pathways or corners of the space. Attractive ornaments also won’t go amiss. Just avoid kitschy items like a garden gnome. Fire pits, rustic garden wagons, and birdbaths have become popular choices, too.

We hope we’ve given you some ideas and inspiration for creating your luxury outdoor seating area. Decorate it tastefully, add some personality, and it’ll soon become your favourite part of your home.
