How to get rid of moles in the garden?

The mole is a small insectivorous animal, leading an underground way of life. It is known, probably, by everyone - from young to old. Its body is covered with a silky, surprisingly beautiful hair, which does not clog the soil and helps the mole to move very quickly through its underground passages in search of food. And what does he eat there? Earthworms, larvae, beetles, insects, slugs, etc. And where are the representatives from this exquisite menu most dwelling? That's right, in fertile, loose soil.

This is where the mole and the gardener's gardener cross paths. They are both interested in this very fertile soil. And their tasks are similar - both of them want to get their food on that land (or under it). Here are just the methods of their daily bread, they are different, sometimes even mutually exclusive. And if a person plants and grows his future useful products, then the mole quite actively interferes with this, arranging numerous underground labyrinths under plantings, which is why the latter not only suffer, but also die.

Read more about how to get rid of moles.

Especially a lot of moles appear in the area of summer cottages in the first half of summer. This is due to the fact that in the forests and meadows, the upper layer of soil is dried up by this time and the food reserves there will become poor. And in the garden in a loose earthwalk is full of worms and other delicious living creatures. Here are the moles and migrate here, adhering to the wise principle: where the grubs - there and hang out.

Although in itself a mole is an animal useful, but when it appears within the garden plot, not a single owner feels delight. And with the advent of the first hillock of the earth in the middle of a lovingly equipped garden bed, a feverish search begins for methods of getting rid of this newcomer. What is most interesting: the ways - many, but perhaps most of them can not give a radical solution to the problem. The same method can help one summer resident, but be completely useless for another. What do the craftsmen offer to get rid of the mole on the plot? Not quite effective methods.

Probably the most popular and well-known method is a stick stuck in the ground, preferably an iron one, at the end of which a metal canal is fluttering, uttering a nasty clang to the whole district at the slightest breath of breeze (another option is a plastic bottle turntable propeller). Strange, but to someone it really helps to get rid of the mole from the garden. However, in most cases, probably moles come across from the category of heavy metal lovers. From this continuous clanging, people themselves are ready to run away from the site, covering their ears, and the moles are only digging with double strength.

Another way, also based on the impact on the tender ears of an uninvited guest, is to bury champagne bottles, tubular reed stalks into the ground. Bottles dropping at an angle of 45 degrees in a well ventilated place. But old men say that reed is more effective. Its long stems (not less than 1.5–2 m) are stuck deep into the ground in each hole on the soil surface, with only 60–80 cm of reed left above the ground. The howls of the wind in these devices force the mole to leave their homeland and go away. There are many methods of influencing the delicate sense of smell of a small digger. In minks they stuff rags moistened with all sorts of harsh and disgusting substances: kerosene, sal ammoniac, naphthalene, standing urine, rotten eggs and fish (they usually recommend for this sacred ritual to “dampen” herring according to a special recipe), etc. Here are just smart little animals may in response to this block up moves with stinkers and dig even more new ones - for better airing of their labyrinths.

Often useless and calcium carbide, which is thrown into the mink and pour water. And sulfur smoke from special checkers can not only drive a mole out of the plot (temporarily, by the way, others may soon be replaced), but also destroy the seedlings of cultivated plants. Therefore, it is better to use checkers on empty ground, before planting. If there is nothing to do, then for the sake of entertainment, you can try to get rid of moles, having arranged a world-wide flood for them - pour cold water into the mink. But if you have water on the counter, it is better to give up this idea immediately, because water in the underground labyrinths will take not just a lot, but ... a lot. Well, in general, you understand. It makes no sense to pour water to nowhere, when its reserves on the planet and so are not infinite.
