Forget the Kitchen - the Lounge is Where it’s Atsubmitted on 25 September 2014
‘You’ll always find me in the kitchen at parties.’ -Jona Lewie
Not me, I’ll be in the lounge. A lot of people like to say that the kitchen is the heart of the house, and the best room to be in. No. The living room is where it’s at! It’s comfortable and warm – why would you want to stand in a cold, smelly kitchen? I’m going to help you transform your lounge into a place where you are going to want to be. The kitchen will be left in favour for the elegance and respect your new lounge will command.
Comfort
In my opinion, a living room should be lived in. It should be a comfortable nirvana, a place where people can retreat and get a little sanctuary (look and learn) from the stresses of modernity. Comfort doesn’t have to be unstylish. You can get a large, sofa that’s so comfortable you never want to leave. Couple this with a plush carpet and you’re good to go. If you have wooden floors, why not get a luxurious rug, you know the one – the type of rug you want to take your shoes off and press your feet into it.
The Fireplace
An extension of the comfort aspect, but important enough to require its own section. Fireplaces don’t just make a room warmer in the sense of heat, they also make it cosier. A fireplace is great, but don’t despair if you don’t have a chimney breast or hearth as you can buy these standalone, bioethanol fireplaces that use renewable, environmentally friendly fuel that does just a good a job. If you’re interested check out a bioethanol fireplace online seller like imaginfires.co.uk, for example. They are easier to maintain and install then a gas or log fire, so why not give it a go.
The Extras
Yes, the TV and the sofas, etc, are the really important aspects of a communal, family lounge, but don’t ever neglect the extras. I’m talking, lamps, coffee tables, foot stools, curtains, mirrors … you get the picture. These things are vital to the success of a room. What’s really interesting is to incorporate the extras into the colour scheme. Your colour scheme is most likely going to come through with the floor, walls, and sofa; however, if you use varying colour accents to create great effect, you will have a transformed lounge.
Are Flip Flops OK?
See, living rooms are so much more exciting, brimming with more possibility, then your boring old chrome room. You never hear people saying, ‘ooo, where did you get that sink?!’ It’s because no one cares. Soon, you’ll be dragging people into your living room and then they’ll never, ever want to leave. Just don’t become one of those people who make guests take their shoes off – we hate it. No one likes being asked to take their shoes of for some Mrs Bucket character, unless of course they are one of those people anyway. I digress. Look at your room, take in my advice and soon you’ll have a transformed living room that will be the best room in the house.
