5 Useful Tips to for Renovating Your Garden

submitted on 22 February 2018
Gardening can be an interesting hobby to pick up if you enjoy the serenity and aesthetic pleasures that nature brings. It takes skill, patience and knowledge to tend a blossoming garden, and it can also demand time and money depending on its size. If you have had a garden for a couple of years, you may be tired of it and eager to give your whole backyard a new look. With the right amount of money on the ground and a good plan, renovating your garden is a feasible possibility. This article will, therefore, offer you five tips that you can consider taking on board if you have plans to renovate your garden any time soon.

Figure out What You Want
You may feel like you’re sick and tired of the overall look of your backyard, but the next question that you should ask yourself is what you want to change it to. Think about what additions or subtractions you want to make to your garden to make it more appealing to your eyes. You may decide that you want a new layout completely, or that you only want to change the existing layout slightly. It is, however, important that you have an idea what you want so that you can calculate the costs and come up with a rough figure which you can build your budget around. If you aren’t sure exactly what you want and how to execute it or you simply want to rejuvenate your garden, you could consider calling a professional designer to help as well.

Set a Proper Budget
Once you’ve been able to decide on what exactly you want to do to your garden, it will be easier to come up with a budget. Setting up a detailed budget before beginning renovations are important. For one, renovating a garden can be expensive depending on the nature of the renovations you choose to do. Secondly, it is said that you should set aside extra money outside of your budget for any unexpected costs that may occur. The last thing you would want is to have to stop renovating half-way through because you’ve depleted your funds. Remember, there is no rush to renovate so try and only do so only when you can afford the associated costs. When setting out a budget write down every possible cost that you can think of. This will require research as you’ll need to check how much each item or fixture will cost and find the best deal possible. After doing this, you should be able to calculate a round figure and see if it’s something you can afford. If you can’t, you should revisit your renovation plan and see where you can reduce the overall cost. It might mean doing some DIY to reduce labour costs or holding off on the fancy swing set for the kids. You may choose instead to first decide how much you’re willing to spend and then work your renovation plan around that budget. Either way is fine as long as you don’t end up dramatically overspending in the end.

Consider Additional Structures
Depending on how much space you have, you may decide that you want to add structures to your backyard. You may, for instance, feel as though you’ve outgrown your shed and you want to create a new one. You could consider buying a brand-new shed that is far more spacious from someone such as Kybotech. Some other things that you could consider include adding other structures to your backyard such as a cabin or a treehouse if you happen to have the space. This could be used as accommodation for guests or just an extended room for anyone who wants a little peace and quiet away from the main home. Another idea is to replace your existing fence and try a new design or using new material. This could mean changing a wire fence to a picket one. If you have young children or grandchildren, you could also think about adding a swing set or a play area especially for them. You could look at magazines and gardens online for a little inspiration on what you can add to your garden to give it a brand-new feel.

New Flowers and Plants
One way to give your garden a completely new look is by redesigning your flower arrangement in your garden or changing the flowers altogether. You don’t have to be an expert gardener in order to do this. You will need basic gardening knowledge and some inspiration to decide on the design that you want as well as the seeds you want to plant. If you decide to start with a clean slate, then you’ll need to first dig up the existing plants and empty their beds. You can then go on to amend the soil using cow manure and peat moss. Once you’ve done this, you can create your new flower arrangement form the different ones that you chose this time around. In addition to planting new flowers, why not also think about creating or redesigning your footpath? These are usually made from gravel, bricks, plans, and concrete moulds, and there are endless possibilities regarding the unique ways you can choose to design them.

Add Shade
If you own the property, there are certain landscaping tricks that can add value to your property. One of them includes adding shade which will protect you and your family from extreme weather such as the scorching hot sun or the heavy pouring of rain. If you are on a budget, you could consider creating a shade sail on your own. It would require you to install three timber posts and a shade sail kit. Seeing as gardens that require a lot of upkeep are said to affect the valuation price of a home, it may be best to keep it low maintenance.

Change is often an exciting thing, especially when it comes to renovating your abode. You should, therefore, put careful thought into it as well as take time out to plan effectively. Renovating your garden will be a lot of work, but with some of these tips and time, it should be worthwhile in the end.
