Practical Tips for Remodelling the Master Bedroomsubmitted on 6 May 2015
So, you’ve finally saved enough money to totally remodel your master bedroom and are just about ready to begin, but the project is going to be much bigger than you had anticipated. It will entail tearing down a couple of walls to add a master bathroom and building out about 10 feet so that you will have more room once the closet is re-constructed into part of that bathroom you are adding. No matter what kind of project you are undertaking, you won’t want to leave your home while the remodelling is underway, so here are some practical tips when remodelling the master bedroom.
Number One Priority – Where to Sleep
If your family is like everyone else’s, every bit of sleeping space is probably already spoken for. Not only are the kids in all the bedrooms, including the guestroom, but they may even be two to a room. Not that you have a large family, but most of the time homes are smaller because they are more energy efficient and of course as the property value goes down taxes are lower. However, all those benefits have left you at a deficit now because you’ll have nowhere to sleep! You may want to consider a folding bed that can be easily stored in a closet or tucked up against a wall in the daytime. Jay-Be folding beds are actually perfect and as they are made in Britain, they are of superior quality and comfort.
Next on the List – Clothing
Most people have too much clothing as it is and every time a sale comes online, they buy even more. This would be a perfect time to start getting rid of some of those items that will never fit you again in this lifetime. If they are still in good shape, donate them to your favourite charity. Those that you want to keep but have no room for whilst the remodelling is going on should be separated into two categories, those you will wear this season and those for winter.
Presumably it is summer when you do the remodelling project because few people in their right mind would tear down walls in the winter! The clothing that you will wear next season can be reduced in size by more than 50% with those vacuum sealed bags. Now they can be tucked away safely in the loft or in a storage bin in the garage until you can move back in your bedroom.
Furniture – To Store or Buy New?
The only other thing that may present a problem is what to do with your bedroom furniture whilst workers are in there. You certainly can’t leave it so what can you do? If you are going to keep it, small storage units are available and they really can be quite reasonably priced.
As with your unwanted clothing, if you are going for a whole new look in your bedroom and have decided to buy new furniture, give the old to the same charity that took in your old clothing. These are only a couple tips to help you live comfortably whilst work is going on, but with a little patience and some careful planning, you’ll get through it without a terrible amount of disruption.
